Learning objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Locate and interpret the Illinois legal/regulatory sources that govern ethical OT/OTA practice (Practice Act + 68 Ill. Adm. Code Part 1315).
  2. Apply Illinois Professional Conduct Standards to common clinical and business dilemmas (boundaries, discrimination, consent, fees, documentation integrity).
  3. Differentiate OT vs OTA responsibilities and apply Illinois supervision + supervision documentation requirements in daily practice.
  4. Identify and reduce risk for unprofessional conduct (fraud/misrepresentation, incompetence, services not rendered, impaired practice).
  5. Handle confidentiality, records, and disclosure challenges (including Illinois “special record protections” situations such as mental health records).
  6. Use a repeatable ethical decision-making process and document the rationale in a way that supports quality care, compliance, and defensible practice
